HSI-SIG

Established in 2024, the Human Systems Integration (HSI) special interest group focusses on approaches that integrate technology, organisations and people effectively across the breadth of the system lifecycle. Effective HSI requires both technical HF expertise as well as appropriate management of the HSI activities within broader complex system development programs.

The scope of HSI consists of a number of complementary perspectives (or domains):

• Human Factors Engineering
• Social, Culture and Organisational Factors
• HSI Planning
• Integrated Logistics Support / Maintenance
• Workforce Planning
• Competences / Professionalism
• Training
• Safety
• Occupational Health
• Sustainability
• Habitability of the Designed Environment
• Usability
• Comfort / UX

The initial aim of the special interest group is to support HFESA members in the following ways:

• HF practitioners who are interested in understanding more about HSI or upskilling,
• HF practitioners who are working closely with systems engineering roles and wish to understand the nature of the relationship better,
• HF practitioners who are being deployed into HSI programs,
• HF practitioners who are already working in HSI and are seeking collaboration or support for challenges,
• HF practitioners who wish to keep abreast of progress in the HSI area.
