ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Join us in Launceston from 1 to 3 December 2025 for the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society of Australia’s (HFESA) National Conference.

This year’s theme, Human Factors and Complexity Systems, will explore how contemporary methods help solve real-world, complex problems. The conference will highlight strategies for identifying, managing, and mitigating hazards in complex environments while evaluating the effectiveness of innovative solutions.

HFESA 2025 will bring together world leaders, emerging scientists, practitioners, and strategists across disciplines, including human-centred design, safety science, engineering, psychology, occupational health, environmental design, technology development, and more.

Our event aims to create a vibrant environment that fosters lively debate on pivotal issues shaping our future, gain insight from a broad range of expertise, and inspire action as you leave invigorated, equipped with new knowledge and courage to contribute to a better future.

THE FORMAT

HFESA 2025 will span 2.5 days, starting with site visits on Monday morning, followed by an opening keynote after lunch. The plenary program on Tuesday and Wednesday will feature keynote presentations, parallel sessions, sponsor addresses, poster presentations, and interactive discussions.

The HFESA 2025 conference is an in-person event only. Sessions will be recorded and will be available to registered delegates after the event.

We invite practitioners, academics, researchers, industry professionals, students, government representatives and innovators to bring ideas and insight on matters impacting tomorrow’s world. Don’t miss this opportunity to share your work, expertise, and ideas at this conference.

We invite submissions that encapsulate the essence of human factors in complex systems. We invite topics that encompass research, practice, challenges, and opportunities that show the impact human factors and ergonomics can make now and into the future.

Submissions to the HFESA 2025 Conference are reviewed against the same acceptance criteria adjusted to suit the submission categories.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Abstracts

Research and Poster Presentations
Submissions must include a structured abstract of no more than 300 words summarising Background and Aims, Methods, Results, Discussion and Implications

Industry Cas Studies
Submission for practitioner work projects must include a structured abstract of no more than 300 words summarising the Context, Aim, Approach, Results and Implications.

Workshops
Submission for workshops must include a structured outline of the workshop in no more than 300 words outlining the Aim, Approach, and Intended Outcomes.

We are eager to hear about your projects, the challenges and opportunities you’ve faced, and how our discipline has made an impact.

Abstract Submission Information

In submitting an abstract, authors agree to abide by the following policies:

  • Presenters must submit their abstract with the full intention of physically attending the conference and presenting in person. Virtual presentations will not be able to be accepted.
  • All presenters are required to pay the registration fee. The Early Bird Conference Registration rate is offered to all presenters.
  • Abstracts must conform to the requirements in the call for abstracts
  • Abstracts that state results to be presented at conference will not be considered. Abstracts must describe the completed work
  • The work submitted has not been submitted to another conference or is currently under review at another conference
  • Obtain any necessary approval from your employer or any participant groups before you submit your abstract
  • HFESA assumes that all co-authors have given their consent to submit the abstract and if accepted, publish the abstract in the HFESA Conference Proceedings
  • HFESA is not responsible for communications about your abstract that fail to reach you if you have failed to maintain correct contact information with the Scientific Convenors

Accepted submissions will be invited to respond to reviewer comments and populate their presentation/poster/workshop/ and final submissions.

In order to keep the costs down for students, the Gala dinner is not included in your ticket price. You can opt to attend the dinner by purchasing a separate ticket.

The HFESA Secretariat will keep a list of delegates who are looking to share accommodation. Please email the Secretariat to be placed on the list and notified of delegates to connect with.

Yes, all the Keynotes and paper presentations will be recorded (excluding workshops). An access link will be provided after the conference when uploading is completed to our cloud storage.
