Eurocontrol: Airline Economics (part 1/4) – Legacy carriers are thriving
This is the first webinar in a series of four webinars, designed for staff from ANSP and oversight authorities, offering insights into various aspects of network planning, the challenges of balancing revenue and costs, the complexities of fleet selection, and the tasks performed at airline headquarters that are not fully visible to those following daily operational routines. Lecture is given by a former airline executive, so these are not just dry facts and tables but, personal comments on what it really is with no hesitation to use personal anecdotes.
Part 1 of our airline webinar series delves into the essential aspects of network planning, airline scheduling and the principles behind creating a hub. It emphasizes the constraints and challenges involved. Additionally, two European hubs are presented and analysed. The session explores the implications of geographical location, night curfews, time zones, route selection, aircraft size, and flight frequencies. Examples of hub fortresses are also discussed to illustrate these concepts.
